The decision depends on many factors, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>the removal\u2019s scale and type \u2013 if you\u2019re moving to a new flat and have only a few possessions of moderate value to transport, you may \u201csurvive\u201d without the extra insurance. But if it\u2019s an office relocation and you\u2019re about to move valuable belongings at long distance, it would be reasonable to get the extra protection,<\/li><li>the value of your possessions \u2013 antique furniture, very expensive electronics, a large set of your grandmother\u2019s china, fine art\u2026 if there are any of those items on your \u2018to move\u2019 list, make sure you have the right insurance.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s also about how much you trust the removal company and how much risk you are ready to take. It\u2019s a very similar case to the one in which you consider whether to buy travel insurance or not. Theoretically, it\u2019s very unlikely that you will get hurt during a two-week holiday, which means buying insurance is a waste of money. But on the other hand, if something bad happens, without insurance, you\u2019ll pay a lot more. So, are you willing to take the risk, or do you prefer to minimise it by paying a small sum of money? If the team doesn\u2019t know they\u2019re dealing with perishable items, they may not be as gentle with it as they should,<\/li><li>packing things on your own, ignoring the removal company\u2019s requirements \u2013 for instance, when your movers tell you to wrap the TV in a lot of bubble wrap, but you decide not to, they can\u2019t be blamed for scratching the screen or the case;<\/li><li>failing to inform the crew about any items of high value.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As you can see, it\u2019s very easy to avoid those situations by talking to the movers and listing all the belongings that need to be transported to the new place.
